History Tenants Hire Artists in residence Warwick District Arts Consortium Location

Artists in residence
An essential element of Spencer Yard is to improve access to the diverse communities which comprise Old Town. The primary method to achieve this aim is to create an Artist in Residence Programme to enable the resident artist(s) to exchange ideas and experiences through presentations, workshops and informal discussion and take an active part in encouraging participation by BME communities in Spencer Yard. The Resident Artist will also have the opportunity to inform the practice of arts companies based within Spencer Yard. The duration for each residency will be for two years.

Aims of the residency

- To enable Old Town communities to access and respond to the new facilities in Spencer Yard

- To inform the professional development of local artists / arts organisations

- To produce at least one piece of work in each year of the residency to be performed / exhibited
   in Old Town

- Involve people from every section of the community in cultural activities that educate, inform,
  entertain, challenge and delight them

-Support the development of contemporary Black artistic practice

There will be a particular focus on ensuring that those, for whom arts have traditionally been inaccessible either because of financial or social exclusion, will benefit from the project. For further information on this scheme Click here to e-mail Louise Piper
